Bowl

This piece is an excellent example of colombin (or coiled) pottery. This technique has been used in ceramic production since prehistory. The technique consists of superimposing long strands of clay, called colombins, obtained by rolling a piece of clay with the palm of the hands. The piece is solidified by pressing the colombins together, then smoothing the surface as the piece rises. Unfortunately, we have almost no information on the provenance of this piece collected by Father Carrier, other than the fact that it is of Indigenous origin.
